1. Ultra-light: The lightest metal structural material in the world, with a density of 1.35-1.65g/cm3, 1/2 lighter than aluminum alloy and 1/3 lighter than magnesium alloy.
2. Excellent rigidity: The rigidity is 22 times that of steel; the weight of magnesium and lithium required for the same rigidity is only 1/3 of steel.
3. Superplasticity: Tensile elongation at high temperature can reach 758%, and thin-walled parts with precise size, complex shape and uniform and fine grain structure can be obtained by superplastic forming.
4. Good electrical/thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity is about 300~400 times that of plastics, 30~50 times that of carbon fiber composite materials, and the electrical conductivity is about 1016 times that of plastics, and 104 times that of carbon fiber composite materials.
5. Excellent shock absorption performance: It has a large internal friction coefficient, which can consume energy inside the metal and effectively improve the stability of the equipment, suitable for producing shock absorption equipments, such as tank armor.
6. Excellent electromagnetic shielding performance: Mg-Li alloy has a good shielding effect on electromagnetic waves in different bands, and is suitable for making gyroscope shells, shielding shelters, anti-interference control cabinets, etc..
7. Good welding performance: Magnesium-lithium is easy to be welded by laser welding, friction stir welding, TIG welding, electron beam welding and brazing.
8. Excellent machinability and cold forming ability: Mg-Li has excellent machinability, good surface quality, low cutting force and low energy consumption. The cold working performance is excellent as the total cold rolling rate can reach 90%, and it can be stamped at room temperature.
